Over the last 20 years the reality of climate change and the threat which it poses to us all has become very real and this is certainly a commonly debated topic. During a recent interview however I heard a man asking why “ should I reduce my carbon footprint”?
I found that this was something which many have been thinking about and in reality when the guy explained the damage that so many others were doing, I suppose that he was right in his curiosity as to why he should have to take action when many weren’t. Sadly this is a common thought process which many have, and here is why I believe that everyone, no matter who they are or what they are able to accomplish, should look to reduce their carbon footprint.
Every Little Helps
It sounds like an enormous cliche but the reality is that we can all do our bit and together there is much that we can do to fix and reverse the damage which we have had on the planet over the last 50 years. The biggest point to make here is that we have all contributed towards this, in some capacity or another, and if it took us all to cause the damage then it will certainly take us all to fix the damage. People think that they are not able to make a difference but the reality is that everyone can have an impact on making sure that the world is a healthier and a happier place to live.
The Biggest Message of All
Another common phrase that is used here is that there are factories around the world which are causing more damage than the rest of us, and it is up to the government to take important steps which ensure that those people doing the biggest damage are held to account. Again this is something that I agree with yet everyone has to remember that it is them who has a vote as to which party gets into power. Almost all of the world’s biggest nations have political parties which have committed representatives with a green plan, through voting for them you are making a stand for a reduction in pollution and for an increase in green credentials.
Inspiring Others
As we have mentioned, this is going to take all of us to reverse the damage which we have done to the planet over the last 50 years, and someone needs to get started. One of the most compelling reasons therefore as to why you should make that change is because in doing so you will inspire others to do so as well. This will then kickstart a chain reaction around the world which, like a domino effect, will result in so many more of us looking to change the world, one small change at a time.
Many may feel slightly pessimistic when it comes to what we can achieve but little by little we will be able to make that big change that is needed, it starts with one.
