Having been friends for many years myself and my old college roomie, and now colleague have long been big fans of the EPL, and we are currently in a golden period of our friendship in this regard. Menos Hiras has supported Man City since before that cash injection came in, and I have been a Liverpool fan since I was a young boy. Currently the two hottest teams in the Premier League are ours, and there is nobody that will get close to us this year.
Naturally Menos and I have been going back and forth as to who will win this year’ title, and biases aside, here is how I think it will play out.
Winner – Liverpool
Last year I predicted Man City to win the title and I was right, this year however I think that the Premier League trophy is coming back to Anfield, something which Menos wholeheartedly disagrees with of course. Liverpool are a better team than we were last year, especially having won the Champions League. People forget that Liverpool gained 96 points last and only lost out by 1. We may not have invested in any players during the summer but for me that was something which just wasn’t necessary. This team has hit its groove and the fact that we are already unbeaten in the league, having lost just one game since the turn of the year, is evidence of that fact. Liverpool have to play Leciester, Spurs and the 2 Manchester clubs in the next 5 games, after that I have no doubt that Liverpool will be 10 points clear and full of confidence, ready to romp home to the title.
Role Reversal
An an ironic twist I think that Man City will not only come second this year, but I expect them to repeat what Liverpool did last year and lift the Champions League trophy, something which Menos has been waiting a long time to see. The only reason why this breathtaking Man City team will not win the title is because of their defence, it just isn’t good enough and with America Laporte out now until 2020, that leaves them with Johh Stones and Nicolas Otamendi, hardly the backline of champions. Teams are wising up to City and whilst they cannot always stop them, they know that if they take their chances then they can make a game of it. City battered Tottenham and still drew, they were taught a lesson by Norwich and other teams will look at that and fancy their chances, at least at home anyway. There is only one team who can stand toe to toe with Manchester City at the moment and that is Liverpool, and honestly I don’t see City winning either of their games against us.
Liverpool champions for the first time in Premier League history, what are your thoughts on how the whole thing will pan out?
